Kate's story
Living with secondary lymphoedema following cancer treatment

I developed secondary lymphoedema in one arm following my cancer treatment. Wearing my compression every day [Juzo soft class 1] is really important to keep on top of the oedema (swelling). I've subsequently had a secondary cancer diagnosis.

I’m a qualified practitioner as well as a patient, so I try to use my knowledge to guide my own care. But even with that background, I know firsthand how overwhelming it can sometimes feel. That’s one of the reasons I started building up information on my YouTube channel [My Simple Steps] - sharing not just clinical insight but also my personal experience. If I can make even one person feel less lost or less alone with their lymphoedema, then it’s worth it.

I am doing my best to live my own advice and treat it like a 'holistic' way of looking after myself. But it can still feel like a chore, when your fatigue levels are high and life gets in the way.

Real patient representation means practical things to me:

  • Easy access to your prescription.
  • Not having to pay for your essential compression garments.
  • Knowing what new products or innovations are coming.
